Feb 17, 1781: Birthday of René Laënnec, the French physician who invented the stethoscope. For three years he studied the chest sounds of patients and correlated them with the disease found in autopsy.

The very first Registered Therapist was Sister Mary Yvonne Jenn, RRT, who held Registry Number One, and served as the first Registrar (equivalent to Executive Director) of the American Registry of Inhalation Therapists (ARIT), the predecessor of the NBRC.
